What we book for hotshot
Partial loads, expedited runs, equipment and machinery moves, and freight that is urgent enough that nobody wants to wait for a full trailer. You compete with LTL on price and with flatbed on speed, and the loads that pay well are usually the ones somebody needs today.
Know your real payload
This is where new hotshot operators get caught. The number on the trailer brochure is not what you can legally haul once you subtract the truck, the trailer, fuel, and you. Plenty of setups that look like they carry 15,000 lbs actually carry far less, and a scale house is a bad place to find out. Tell us your real figure and we will only bring you loads that fit it.
Non CDL has a ceiling
Staying under 26,001 lbs combined keeps you out of CDL territory, which is why so many people start here. It also caps what you can take. If you are planning to go over that line later, it is worth knowing before you buy the next trailer rather than after.
Deadhead is the whole game
A $6.00 a mile load looks excellent until you count the 100 miles you ran empty to get to it. Rate divided by every mile you drove is the only figure that pays the truck, and on short hotshot runs the empty miles are often a bigger share than on a long haul.
